So, why is your dishwasher on the fritz?

Let’s look at some common FAQs regarding dishwashers…
• What do I do if there are terrible smells coming from my dishwasher?
• For some reason, there’s water stuck in my dishwasher. Why didn’t it drain?
• My dishwasher is leaking water. What’s causing it, and is there an easy way to fix it?
• I’m in a hurry to put the dishes away, but my dishwasher isn’t drying dishes. What do I do?
• When I opened my dishwasher to put away the dishes, there was still food and residue on them. Why isn’t my dishwasher cleaning my items properly?

If your dishwasher smells atrocious, the culprit is most likely the filter. To fix the problem, you should first clean your filter by rinsing it under hot water. Afterwards, run a hot cycle with vinegar on the top rack and do a smell check. If the smell still lingers, run another cycle with vinegar and/or bleach.

If you want to avoid awful smells wafting from your dishwasher, it is best to take preventative measures—such as scraping food products from dishes before putting them in the dishwasher and cleaning the filter on a regular basis.

Typically, if there’s water stuck in the dishwasher it’s because you have a clog. You should check the dishwasher filter to see if something is obstructing it. You can also check the drain hose. If you’ve followed these steps, there’s a possibility you’ll need to clean or replace the air gap. If you still find it difficult to fix, call Premier Appliance and we’ll help you get back on track.
There are about five reasons that your dishwasher could be leaking water: a defective gasket; a damaged water pump system; a faulty water inlet valve; a clogged filter; or a damaged float switch. All five of these can be fixed, but it won’t necessarily be easy.
You should add rinse aid to improve the drying function in your dishwasher. But, if that doesn’t work, you may have a malfunctioning heating element that is preventing hot air from evaporating water in an efficient matter. The former is easily done; but, for the latter, you’ll need to call professionals like us, Premier Appliance.
The dishwasher isn’t cleaning your items properly either because the filter is clogged or because the spray arms can’t rotate without something blocking it. In the future, you can avoid this problem by loading the dishwasher with heavier items on the bottoms and smaller items on the top.
