Residential Kitchen Appliance Care Tips
-
Dishwasher
-
- Deep clean your dishwasher at least once every six months (it’s recommended to clean monthly for maximum efficiency!)
- Make sure to keep your dishwasher rack’s wheeled aligned correctly. This ensures that the spray arm can effectively rotate and thoroughly clean your dishes!
- If you’re consistently seeing grime buildup on your dishes, you likely have hard water, or water with high levels of dissolved minerals. Consider using dishwasher salt.
- Check out this page for other dishwasher related FAQ.

-
Garbage Disposal
-
- You can freshen up your garbage disposal with a few chopped citrus peels and cold water.
- If you have a clog, don’t use chemicals! Opt for natural alternatives such as baking soda and vinegar to prevent corrosion, contamination, and so you don’t harm yourself.
- For all of your professional garbage disposal repair and installation needs, call Premier Appliance of Augusta.
-
-
Freezer
- If the ice in your freezer is a quarter-inch thick or more, it’s time to defrost! Defrosting gives you more space and eliminates odor.
- Be sure to deep clean your freezer and its shelves or any drawers at least twice per year.
- Routinely throw away old, expired food and organize what remains. Knowing what you have and where it is will help you refrain from keeping the freezer open for too long – preserving the freezers efficiency.
-
Ice Maker
- Change out the filter every six months. Old filters can affect the taste of your ice!
- Be sure that there are no spills near the ice maker and that all food is properly sealed to prevent this from affecting the taste of your ice, as well.
- If you are having issues with the functionality of your ice maker, contact Premier Appliance of Augusta!
-
Ice Machine
- Depending on how often you use your ice machine, you should regularly remove the ice bin and any loose ice. Then clean the bin with soap and warm water to increase the lifespan of your appliance.
- Remove food particles, mold, and other contaminants by sanitizing the ice maker and bin with a 1:1 vinegar-water solution.
-
Microwave
- Never open the microwave door while the microwave is still running. This can blow a safety fuse.
- The preprogrammed cooking times on your microwave can be more energy efficient than running 30 seconds to one minute at a time.
- If you suspect that your microwave needs repairs, consider the experts at Premier Appliance.
-
Oven
- Check the accuracy of your oven temperature with an oven thermometer, then calibrate the oven’s thermostat to ensure a more accurate reading each time you cook.
- Check for damaged wires or loose connections often to avoid electrical hazards.
- Different types of ovens call for different methods of repair. Our team has you covered, regardless of what oven you have.
-
Range and Stove Top
- Be sure to use nonabrasive cleaners and sponges on stubborn stains.
- Re-season range grates with cooking oil to keep them from rusting.
- For professional range and stove top repair and other related information, book with our team.
-
Refrigerator
- Keep your coils (on the bottom or back of your fridge) free of dust, pet hair, and other debris with a vacuum or brush.
- Make sure the rubber seal around your refrigerator door is sealing properly, and keep it clean with warm, soapy water.
- If your refrigerator isn’t cooling properly and you can’t figure out why, we can!
-
Vent Hood
- Regularly soak your filters in a hot water and degreasing solution.
- To keep your motor in good condition, also regularly clean the fan blades of built up dirt, grease, and other debris. Use soapy warm water and a clean rag, being sure to avoid electrical components.
- If your vent hood is clean but still giving you troubles, it’s time to call in the professionals.
Laundry Appliance Care Tips
-
Washing Machine
-
- Using too much detergent can reduce the amount of friction with your clothes during the wash. You may also see buildup in your washer. Measure your detergent for each load you wash!
- Clean your washer’s lint filter, leave the door open to let keep odors and mildew to a minimum, and clean the washing machine occasionally with something such as Affresh or OxiClean!
- Don’t overload your washing machine with too many clothes or heavy bedding! This can cause it to not spin properly. If you aren’t overfilling the machine but it still won’t spin, call Premier Appliance.
-
-
Electric Dryer
-
- Keep your lint filter and dryer vent clean and obstruction free to prevent fire hazards!
- Just like with your washer, you shouldn’t overfill your dryer. This will lead to you needing to run the machine longer to fully dry your clothes, which in turn leads to quicker wear and tear on the appliance.
- Check out our electric dryer repair and install page for more information and FAQ.
-
-
Gas Dryer
- Follow the same general guidelines as you would with an electric dryer: keep the lint filter clean and don’t put too many clothes in at once!
- Before cleaning the dryer vent, be sure to turn off the gas valve and be careful not to damage the gas line.
- If you’ve already performed these tasks and are still having issues, call our team.
